Barbara Forever

A documentary exploring the
life, work, and legacy of Barbara Hammer, a pioneer of queer experimental
cinema and one of the first filmmakers to bring a full lesbian life to the
screen. Drawing from an extensive archive, including over eighty films,
previously unseen materials, and personal records, the film crafts an intimate
portrait of her artistic practice and lasting impact on cinema and LGBTQ+
cultures. Through image, memory, and the body, a voice emerges—one that
transforms the personal into history and desire into cinematic language. Premiering
at Sundance (where it won the Editing Award) and awarded the Teddy Award for
Best Documentary at the Berlinale, Brydie O’Connor’s debut feature celebrates a
legacy that continues to inspire new ways of seeing and storytelling.
DocumentaryPT1H42MNR2026-05-21Barbara Hammer
