raised in rural Kentucky, leaves home in 1917 to study music in Boston, where
he meets David, a young composer with whom he forms an immediate bond before
the war separates them. Years later, they reunite for a journey through the
forests and coastal landscapes of Maine, collecting folk songs to preserve them
for future generations. As time passes, Lionel builds a new life in Europe, yet
remains shaped by the intensity and brevity of their connection. Directed by
Oliver Hermanus and starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor, the film premiered
in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.</span>DramaPT2H8MNR2026-05-21Paul Mescal
